Because I choose not to pay the Idiot Tax.

BUT if I did by some miraculous chance win a fuck-ton of money, I’d buy a road version of the Panoz GTR-1, and I’d invest in Amazon or Tesla, which is the smart thing to do with lottery winnings.

You literally have 0 chance of winning if you don't play.

The odds of actually winning the PowerBall are slim- almost negligible. Why would I pay good money for a piece of paper just like 292,000,000 other pieces of paper?

actually, the smart thing to do is put it in an index fund instead of all into one or two companies.

My uncle calls it that, I generally tend to agree with him.

That said, the other day I gave a homeless guy $2 because I didn’t feel like having it in my pocket...so using $2 to go from a 0% chance to a 0.0000000001% chance is totally harmless to me. At this point I just hope somebody wins so we can all stop talking about it/I can stop buying my $2 ticket.

It irritates me to no end whenever I hear people ask “So what would YOU buy if you won the lottery?????”

“Well, I would buy THIS AND THIS AND THIS AND THIS AND THAT AND THIS but then I’d have to return everything because I still only earn $50,000/year.”

Well, I mean I can do both. I think maybe the fun of talking about what you’d do with the money is worth the $2. Somebody is going to win, it’s a virtual certainty that it won’t be me or anybody I’ve ever met (and it probably will be somebody from Pennsyltucky that lives in a trailer), but $2 isn’t buying me anything valuable today. Glad to pay the idiot tax.

check the ROI on that ticket - Regressive tax

(Or an entertainment expense - tell your tax accountant which bucket to put it in.)

Yeah, people love to fantasize.

There needs to be more of this, but organized by charities (that have a very low overhead)

$5 tickets with the odds of 1 : 345 bajillion. Boom! Child hunger problem solved!

Like a lottery date with Zoey Dechanel! A lottery to cop a feel of Kim Kardashian’s ass! A lottery to spit directly in the face of Donald Trump!

A lottery to win a US work visa!....Wait they already have that and I lost, so I don’t live in the States anymore.... :(

Depending on the state you live in, a lot of the proceeds can go to the state. As of 2013, Colorado received 2.4 billion dollars for parks and wildlife during the 30 years they have had lotteries there. Some states use it for transportation, education, or other. So I don’t feel too stupid giving up a couple bucks a week

You now what would also help pay for education? Taking the money spent on lottery tickets and instead putting it into an education savings plan.
